About KBoyland Designs

Kathy Boyland of K Boyland Designs has been creating ceramic art impressions since the 1980's. I am in full production throughout the spring and summer pressing flowers fresh from the garden. My husband Steve maintains the garden. He grows them and I smash them! My daughter Stephanie and I collaborate on some of the artwork.

Before smashing things in clay I was recording images as a medical photographer at Georgetown University. Many of the facial features captured in clay represent how patients saw themselves prior to plastic and reconstructive surgery. Later I worked for a government contractor as a computer programmer as well as starting and managing their art department. The recording and documenting detailed information in various forms has been apart of my work for many decades.

Delicate details of nature and days gone by are forever preserved in stoneware clay. All the clay works are uniquely hand formed to capture and reflect nature. The clay is left raw, stained or sections glazed. They are fired in a kiln. The clay works are further enhanced to complete the final artwork. The impressions are all one of a kind decorative pieces of art ready to hang on the wall or displayed on a tabletop. The clay works are not to be used to serve food, it is art.

The giclee prints are images of original impressions in clay. Two of the originals in clay and digital lithographs are archived permanently at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
